Ombré Gallery is thrilled with our new location in Over-the-Rhine in downtown Cincinnati. The neighborhood is buzzing and the energy is palpable. As people from across the tri-state area and beyond visit to shop, eat, and drink, I am thrilled to meet visitors from from Columbus to California and even Belgium! There is always something going on in in the neighborhood, like City Flea in Washington Park to the U.S. premiere of Another Brick in the Wall: The Opera at the Music Hall.
We have had many wonderful artist jewelers come to visit us from outside of Cincinnati. Alison Antelman (California), Jessica Calderwood (Indiana), and Tara Locklear (North Carolina) to name a few. Some are passing through on vacation, others are teaching classes around the tri-state area, or here for their exhibition openings. It is always wonderful to have them visit the city of Cincinnati. An art hot spot!

Tara Locklear's exhibition "Survey: Arrange" launched our exhibition series in our new space. Tara is not only a metalsmith, but considers herself a fabricator. One look at her work and you can see why. Tara masterfully creates her work by cutting and finishing recycling broken skateboards, Durat (recycled plastic countertops), Paperstone (recycled paper stone), fine woods, and sterling silver.
“Survey:Arrange” is an experiential excerpt of seeing the world that Tara Locklear has traveled, solely through the lens of her jewelry. She examines linear and geometric forms that determine landscapes, boundaries, and positions of her work. These parts shape a comforting and reoccurring narrative that arranges moments and perspectives into a whole visual jewelry catalog. Locklear received her BFA in Small Metals - Jewelry Design from East Carolina University and maintains her studio in Raleigh, NC. Stop by and see her exhibition before it closes Sunday, August 26th.
Additionally, for the month of August we are featuring the work of Floridian artist Gabrielle Gould. Her jewelry is an interpretation of the natural feel of coastal Florida, where she lives. It is a figurative representation which depicts the environment of the south with feathers, birds, and shells from the beaches or scrubby dune hammock. Inspired partly by the ornamentation of indigenous people, her use of feathers is comparable to today's prevalent use of gemstones. The color, texture and size of each of the feathers is carefully considered when she creates a one-of-a-kind feather neckpiece.
